What a borewell actually costs

1 min read

The pump was the cheap part. A full breakdown of where the money went, including the bits we got wrong.

We promised a full account of this one, so here it is, including the line items we would spend differently.

The borewell repair itself came to less than a third of the total. The platform, the storage tank and the pipework to the tap stand were the rest. The pump was the cheap part.

What we would change

We under-budgeted for the handover. A water point with nobody responsible for it is a water point that breaks in eight months. The maintenance training and the first year of spares should have been in the original figure, not added later.

Thank you for publishing the breakdown. The handover point is the one nobody talks about.

Is the maintenance training something volunteers can help run?
